one of the few times the movie was better, and unfortunately, even though im well aware of the difference in virtues of lit and film, i was always gonna be stuck on the fact that what made the film so good is specifically what they changed. the decision to make lawrence, well, lawrence, and have his crisis be so much more empathic was so good and translated so well to me that i didnt find myself attached to lomeli like at all. i thought some of his dialogue that was cut was actually pretty clever, but to put this kind of internalization-obsessed writing that leaned on so many references to create mood next to the kind of genius filmmaking used in the movie… its kind of a no brainer to see how the adaption took the fantastic idea here and ran with it in a way that i personally appreciated so much more than this. was i biased because i was going in with an idea of what it SHOULD be??? ywah obviously. but also im right
